I would recommend you to install "All in one SEO" plug-in because as you know SEO is important and the default WP script is not really SEO friendly however this plug-in can make wonders to your ranking.

Sorry, but I have to correct you. By using RSS grabbers (at least I call these plug-ins RSS grabbers) your PR will never be increased because PR has nothing to do with the content quality. I'm also sorry but you're also wrong when you think such plug-ins can boost your traffic because the only thing they do is to destroy your website's credibility. By grabbing content from other blogs you will have only and nearly only duplicate content on your website thus Google will give less importance to the site and you will rank lower. If you can try spending time on adding quality content because duplicate content can only hurt. (I don't say that you shouldn't quote something from news portals, but mix it with exclusive content)

I use Delete Revision (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/delete-revision/) to clear up the mess and speed up my database.

There is also Better Delete Revision (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/better-delete-revision/)made by a different developer claiming that it is an improved version of the original.
