No, I left a few weeks ago. Everything's cool with us I just needed more room to grow than there was for me at PornKings. Roger and I are still good friends as well as the rest of teh crew over there.

I am working on a few independent projects but nothing full time as of yet.

My son is going into the USAF this spring. I will need help with: Mowing the grass, lugging heavy items, getting groceries from the car to the house, being the motor (rower) for my boat, etc.

Free housing, but you have to eat my cooking and you need a 4WD to get up and down my driveway OR you can park at the top and be in excellent physical shape after about 2 weeks. Interested? ;-)

Oh, and you must like dogs. A lot.

Whoa, Peaches....your son is going into the military?

Would you come over here and convince mine to do the same?

Uhm... NO offence. But you want your son to go to some bumfuck 3rd world country and die?
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me... but what do I know.

PS. I was going in the military until the whole iraq mess came up.

Not really....but Peaches and I have some long standing jokes about our sons. :)

In all reality, I think serving in the military is a good thing..like the Israelis do.

Every citisen, male or female does a mandatory two years. It's a good way to instill some principles, perhaps, left unlearned or neglected during those growing up years.

But, being a mother, not my son.

Brad, you are correct - what do you know? He's going into the USAF. Every job he will train for is a non-combat computer job and even though many people consider Mississippi a bumfuck third world country and he'll be there at least a year for tech school, since his base is patrolled better than our homes, I'm pretty sure he'll be OK.

Raven, it was easy, hehehe. He went to college for 2 years and his grades were JUST passing. The university said he could stay, but the Bank of Mom was closed. And he didn't get to keep living with me, hehehe.

He had choices - take out tens of thousands of $$$ in student loans, work for several years so he could spend his own money, or get Uncle Sam to pay for his education. They pay 100% for all college classes he takes while enlisted and the GI Bill is currently around $25K when he gets out. Plus since almost everything is paid for, he plans on saving enough to get a decent downpayment on a house when he gets out. And because of his college credits he gets an additional $200-300 a month. My only advice to him: DON'T HAVE ANY KIDS UNTIL YOU GET OUT, lol!! :thumb:

He's actually very excited about it watching his friends with IT and CS majors struggling to find jobs. Since he only needs 2 years before he gets a degree, he's also looking into staying in as an officer.

Heck, I'd join for the free health insurance, food and housing if they'd take me!!

It's almost impossible to attend college while in the military... I know, I tried. You can, but you will miss classes and then they will just drop you from the school.

And once you are out, it's not that easy to just get the $25k like they say. You have to hold a higher than average GPA for them to keep paying, other wise it's back to loans again. It's also not to every school in the country.

They use it as a sales pitch to drag in people. While his job will probably keep him out of combat and his type of job will get him a job once he is out.. It still isn't all that great. Forced shots that make you sick and have killed military, vet benefits are trash now and getting worse.

Just be glad he is going in the Air Force and not another branch.

Actually the info he got was friends who have gone through this - not the recruiter. He figured out day 1 that the recruiter was nothing but a used carsalesman in a uniform.

He only plans on taking a class or two a semester while he's active duty. And online classes count, plus the AF has a community college. And yes, there is a minimum GPA for the GI Bill but it's a LOT lower than the mimimum for the Mom Bill. :thumb:

I've looked at the list of required shots and there's nothing there he hasn't taken before except a flu shot. He won't be leaving the country so there's no need to take most of the ones you're probably referring to. The only "vet" benefit he's interested in is the GI bill.

He chose AF because my Dad's retired AF and like I said he has friends who have been and are AF. He spent well over a year looking into every aspect of this and I've been along for the ride, lol!

USAF offered to pay all my expenses to medical school...in return for several years of service through the Berry Plan back in the day....it was a good offer....although I did turn it down.

I'm not against the military...at all...I think it's a good deal for those two to four years after high school..
