Is it a good idea to ban people that oppose you?
Or is keeping people who oppose you around a good idea, because it gives you a different perspective, to which you might learn a thing or two?
:pimp1:
Hitler didn't do well banning people who didn't fit his criteria of what was right and wrong.

mmm sometimes i ban people who agree with me lol so yeah it happens that i ban people who oppose me. I'm just too stubborn sometimes and that's why i get burned. But i get better :) i just have strong beliefs on things... like Religions so don't get me started on that one, it would not be pretty and would end up insulting everybody lol

there is a great responsibility to banning someone and the first hurdle is getting over yourself. Banning based on personal disagreements or simply because you dislike someone is not a good reason. That makes the board like Hilters who ran a dictatorship. As long as they follow the rules that everyone else does then things are fine.
Harassment, threats of safety, illegal posts/pictures should some of the criteria for considering a ban.

Ban overly stupid people, but nothing like showing some type of business respect and asking them to calm down first, good to give a strong warning.

The real question is whether or not you want people kissing your ass or bringing their real opinions to the board.

Having the power to ban, edit posts, etc is a very big power. Looks like it went to someones head.

If you banned people that oppose you then all you have left are a bunch of sheep. And that by any stretch of the imagination is boring!! And not to mention the banner looks like a big whiney pants!!!

To not ban. Only punk ass, weak little pussies have to ban someone for speaking their mind. A real board knows what's up. This place seems to be good so far.

I've always thought the Condom/Netpond board in its day was the best, hell no one ever got banned, nothing ever got deleted and it moved along almost all the time.

it all depends on the reason behind it
never ban anyone just due to the fact they disagree with you, thats bullshit.

Banning is interesting. I think I've only banned once. The other time doesn't count because it was a bot.
Editing, however, is fun.
And, people often don't follow the rules.
Honest people don't need locks.
So, rules are made for those who actually take the time to read and follow.

IMHO, banning posters should be reserved for the worst of the worst. As I said on GFY, Amp banning Trey did nothing but make Trey know he could and did get to him. And since Lens unbanned him, it made Amp look even worse. :blueshock
I think banning the posters who change your browser, add people to your ignore list, those who stalk (like the guy who showed up at Tom in VA's hous) and those who are involved in CP are the ones who should be banned. Anyone else should be ignored by EVERYONE and they will get tired and go away.

real physical threats = ban
Serious stuff that is, not like "I'm gonna beat you up in vegas" stuff.

Please have mercy on my Voodoo...I swear I'll behave this time!
besides...it's more fun to keep those who oppose around. Once people start ignoring them, they'll disappear (does DaterAPE ring a bell?)!
